'Song of the Week' is an ongoing side project combining two major passions — portraiture & music. Each week(ish) a new song is picked by either myself or a Special Guest and I create a portrait to accompany it. The song is put on the 'Song of the Week' Spotify playlist and the portrait is uploaded to Instagram and the SOTW website — more often than not with a Reel showing the artwork's creation.
The project was initiated as a space for play, to experiment with different techniques and medium outside of the usual constraints of a commercial brief. By nature of the playlist updating weekly it means the portraits need to be created fairly quickly — providing the perfect opportunity to embrace experimentation, try new processes & accept imperfections that may otherwise be ironed out in commercial work.
